Zeke

In the days since we've been home, Zeke has become increasingly distant and fearful. It started out a few days ago that he yelled whenever we weren't holding him but has progressed to yelling all the time, including while we hold him. He won't look us in the eyes and tonight when I tried to lotion him after his bath he yelled louder and attempted to climb away from me; eventually trying to claw at my eyes. I prayed over him this whole time and we continue to try to feed him bottles, rock, sing, make him look us in the eyes, but he needs more than parents can give. I have also given him tylenol and motrin today, hoping that maybe something physical is wrong and we have a doctor appt in the morning. We know that we are so blessed by our friends who continue to pray for us and we need it now more than ever.

  3. God I pray you would heal Zeke's emotions and fears. I pray he'd sense your constant presence, though everything around him has changed. I pray you'd help his eyes and mind adjust to so many new things. I pray the doctors will have wisdom as they care for him. I pray you'd help Kara and Ryan to be unified, support one another well, rest, and be at peace. Comfort them and help them to sense your presence. I pray you'd use Etienne, Molly and Blake to help Zeke feel comfortable and loved. Give all of them the measure of grace they need for today.

    love to you all!

  4. This has to be a scary time for all of you. With the birth of each of our children, I got a "trapped" feeling and a "life will never be good again" feeling. I can imagine you are feeling those things today. Please know that we are praying for Zeke and all of you. I'm praying specifically that Love (God's agape kind) would win the battle in the coming days.

  5. More prayers from us, we've been following your story as we are in the beginning stages of adopting from Rwanda. I pray that God will give Zeke peace, and you and your family the strength to keep on loving and perservering.

    Fear not, for I am with you;
    be not dismayed, for I am your God;
    I will strengthen you, I will help you,
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

    Isaiah 41:13

  8. Kara,
    Martin Luther said, of the Gospel, "Most necessary it is, therefore, that we should know this article well, teach it unto others, and beat it into their heads continually.” So, I'm gonna beat the Gospel into your head. You are adopting because God first adopted us. We were orphans with no father, and God took us into His family. We, like Zeke, continually fight, scream, and run from the loving arms of our Father, God. But, He pursues us in love, to the point of death on a Cross. So, rest in His promises in Romans 8:11, "And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you." Trust that if the Holy Spirit lives in you, He will give you supernatural patience to endure this trial, and unconditional love, and that through this He is making you more like Jesus, which is for your joy. Love you.

  11. I amen all the prayers that have been posted. Psalm 68:19, "Blessed be the Lord, who DAILY bears our burden, The God who is our salvation." I pray that you will lean on Jesus for your strength. God picked you to be Zeke's mama, and He really knows what He's doing! We love you so much.
